My Close-up

AbpCommercial2aToday I filmed four new TV commercials promoting the work of the Catholic Church in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. We filmed today’s spots at the Cathedral of Mary our Queen in North Baltimore. It was a beautiful day to be outside this beautiful church talking about the good works of Pope Francis and of the people of God of this archdiocese. Many thanks to those who contribute to the Catholic Communications Campaign which supports the production of these commercials, which air Sundays and Mondays each week on WBAL-TV channel 11. If you have an idea for an upcoming spot please send an email to

So I saw you on WJZ and you talked about our city needing HEALING!! What are you asking of your churches to help with this HEALING????

    1. Thank you for your question. First and foremost, I’ve asked the faithful of the Archdiocese for their prayers for healing in our City. As people of prayer, this is one of the greatest gifts we can offer our sisters and brothers in Baltimore. Secondly, several months ago, I asked that all our parishes take up a special collection to help fund summer jobs for youth in the city this past summer. As a result we committed $100,000, thanks to the generosity of our people. With the support of Catholic Charities, we have food pantries operating in St. Edward’s, St. Gregory the Great, and St. Peter Claver parishes in West Baltimore. Catholic Charities is hiring a caseworker to work with individuals and families who come to these food pantries to coordinate other services, including employment, housing and healthcare. And Catholic Charities is planning to open an employment hub at St. Edward’s that will provide hard skilled technical training for up to 70 individuals interested in automobile and mechanical training. The Catholic people of the Archdiocese of Baltimore contribute funds to Catholic Charities to support such work. Finally, I have pulled together the heads of Catholic parishes, schools, universities, hospitals, and charitable organizations to coordinate the Church’s response to the needs in some of Baltimore’s most impoverished communities, focusing primarily on education, healthcare, housing, and employment. I pray our response advances the mission of our Church and our Holy Father, whose leadership inspires us to give of ourselves on behalf of those less fortunate.
